Our Commitment
South Gisborne Tennis Club is committed to child safety. We want children to be safe, happy, and empowered, and we support and respect all children, as well as our staff and volunteers.
We have zero tolerance of child abuse, and all allegations and safety concerns are treated seriously. We have legal and moral obligations to contact authorities when we are worried about a child’s safety, and we follow these rigorously.
We are committed to preventing child abuse, identifying risks early, and reducing those risks. We are committed to educating our staff, volunteers, and members on child abuse risks.
We are committed to the cultural safety of Aboriginal children and children from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, and to providing a safe environment for gender diverse children and children with disability.
Every person involved with South Gisborne Tennis Club has a responsibility to understand the role they play, individually and collectively, in keeping the wellbeing and safety of children and young people at the forefront of everything we do.
Our Policy
South Gisborne Tennis Club follows the Tennis Australia Safeguarding Children Code of Conduct. Under this Code:
- The health, safety, and wellbeing of children and young people takes priority over all other considerations
- Tennis Australia and affiliated clubs have a zero tolerance approach to harm, abuse, and neglect of a child in any form, and all children have equal rights to protection regardless of sex, religion, disability, or sexual orientation
- Safeguarding children is a shared responsibility across everyone involved in tennis, including staff, coaches, officials, volunteers, parents, and spectators
- Children’s participation is actively supported, and their views are listened to and respected in decisions that affect them, including their safety
- Tennis Australia pays particular attention to the safety of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, children with disability, children from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, children unable to live at home, and LGBTI children and young people
